Dr. Monica Kang-Sasaki Virtual Piano Masterclass

Monica Kang-Sasaki (Monica Kang) is a versatile performer, piano teacher, and avid scholar. She has premiered solo, collaborative, chamber, and ensemble works and given presentations on contemporary repertoire in various theory and pedagogy conferences. Her book, “Post-Tonal Affinities in Piano Works of Bartók, Chen, and Crumb,” was published in 2016.

 

As a solo artist, Monica has concertized in the United States, Taiwan, and Italy. Collaboratively, she has performed with voice, string, wind, brass, percussion, and mixed ensembles in recitals, musicals, choral and orchestral concerts. Impactful chamber experiences include a week-long tour of the Tuscany region and most recently, performances in Austin as part of Hear No Evil.

 

Monica obtained her doctorate from The University of Texas at Austin. She has a master’s from Manhattan of Music and holds dual bachelor degrees in Mathematics and Piano Performance from Northwestern University. Dr. Kang serves as adjunct professor of piano at Concordia University Texas and previously also taught at Texas Lutheran University.

Dr. Tim Skinner Virtual Clarinet Masterclass

Dr. Timothy Skinner serves as Lecturer of Clarinet at the University of New Mexico and is a member of the New Mexico Winds. In addition to his work at UNM, he has held the Bass Clarinet position with the New Mexico Philharmonic since 2015.

As a performer, Dr. Skinner has had the privilege of playing with notable ensembles such as the Dallas Winds, Santa Fe Symphony, Santa Fe Opera, Del Sol Quartet, and Chatter Albuquerque. Internationally, he has given performances in Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, China, and England. He has also placed as a finalist in prestigious competitive events, including the ICA Orchestral Competition, the MTNA Chamber Music Competition, and the Fischoff Competition.

Dr. Skinner is an active educator, working with many Albuquerque high schools, the Albuquerque Youth Symphony, and Young Musician Initiative, a non-profit education program affiliated with the New Mexico Philharmonic. Before moving to New Mexico, he held the Graduate Teaching Assistant position at the University of Texas in Austin and taught privately in the local public schools. Recently, Dr. Skinner was featured as a guest clinician at the first ever Las Vegas Clarinet Day in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Originally from California, Dr. Skinner earned his BM from California State University Northridge, MM from the University of New Mexico, and DMA from the University of Texas in Austin. His principal teachers include Berkeley Price, Julia Heinen, Keith Lemmons, Nathan Williams, and Richie Hawley.

Dr. Ben Corbin Virtual Piano Masterclass

Dr. Ben Corbin was the recipient of the Mary Elizabeth Sherrill Presidential Endowed Award in Music from 2014-2016. He has been featured on classical radio KMFA in Austin, TX and has been described as an “incisive” pianist by the Colorado Springs Gazette (2013).  

 

Competition prizes:

*Top prize in the Phi Beta Music Competition (2007) 

*1st place in the OMTA Piano Competition (2009)

*2nd Place in the Coeur d’Alene Symphony Young Artist’s Competition (2011)
